Syft, The British Staffing App Launches in Manchester
Revolutionary online staffing app Syft, has expanded to Manchester just in time for the cities hectic Christmas season. Founded in November 2015, Syft specialises in providing employers in the hospitality and events sector with a simplistic and effective way to hire temp staff.
Syft’s Manchester launch is particularly timely as it follows the current surge in restaurant openings in the city. Stats show that the number of restaurants in the city have doubled in the last five years, all attracted to Manchester’s growing economy.
The sheer number of new openings are reported to be causing a hospitality skills deficit within the city. However, Syft’s simplistic yet effective platform to employment is sure to help alleviate the current recruitment challenges.
(Name & Job title) of Victoria Warehouse: ‘We are committed to paying staff well at Victoria Warehouse as it helps us attract the right talent. So when Syft came to speak to us it seemed like the ideal solution for us to get access to quality staff. So far the staff have been great whether we book in advance or last-minute, on the day.’
Jack Beaman, CEO of Syft, said: “Manchester is a really exciting opportunity for us. It’s a vibrant and growing city and the restaurant scene is booming as well as the number of events, conferences and exhibitions. We launched with Victoria Warehouse and they really buy into our ethos in that paying staff well results in attracting the best talent. Staff working at their venue via us have been getting paid £9 an hour. As in London this should make it far easier to gain access to quality staff”.
Syft has been operating successfully in London after closing a seed investment funding round of £2.65 million from Profounders Capital, the prominent British start up founders of Gamesys and Velocity, along with angels such as Lord Young and Former Two Weight World Champion Boxer, David Haye.
After hosting numerous successful onboarding/training days in Manchester over the past month, Syft is fast becoming a popular app for both the job seeker and employers in the city with a backlog over 1000 workers seeking to gain access to the app.
Job seekers using Syft benefit from being able to choose when and where they want to work without the constant hassle of an agency calling them up to offer them shifts. At the click of a button, staff can be booked on to a shift that pays an average £9.40 an hour, considerably higher than the average Manchester hospitality wage. For higher end jobs shifts can pay as much as £20 an hour to the job seeker.
For employers, Syft is cost and time efficient: it gives direct access to fully vetted and rated staff via the app, allowing wide freedom of choice. When removing the middle-man, the traditional temp agency, costs decrease dramatically. Syft saves its clients a massive 55% in temp fees, by only charging them 15% plus NI. It also boasts an average 98.5% shift completion rate, compared to an average agency no-show rate of 12.5%.
Syft allows direct communications between employers and staff, and handles all payroll and tax obligations, with the employer paying staff wages and any NI contributions via the app.
